Essences, Serums, Ampoules….what’s the difference?

Let’s be honest, with all the new technology and skincare options in the industry, it’s hard to keep up with what is available in the market now-a-days. Our clients are coming in and asking us almost the same question— essences, serums, and amploues what’s the difference?

Essences aka miracle water are the lightest product out of the three. After you have cleansed and toned your skin, essences are recommended to put on next. It provides an extra layer of hydration and moisturize the skin and can be applied generously. (No need to worry if you overuse the product!) It usually comes in a bigger bottle and is usually the less expensive of the three products. Regular usage is needed to be able to see a change in your skin since it’s light, it does not penetrate deeper into your different layers of skin.

Serums are almost like essences but is packed with higher certain concentration of ingredients. Whether it’s to reduce dark spots and wrinkles and/or brighten the skin, serums are a great use as it delivers more nutrients into the layers of skin. Most serums does not have water as an ingredient so it’s a great product to target one or a couple skin issues. These are usually in a medium size bottle as you don’t want to use too much product but you can still pack it on!

Then you have ampoules, which has a much higher concentration of ingredients. The big picture—ingredients you find in an essence are multiplied in one drop of an ampoule. They penetrate the deepest layers of your skin and are very effective as you can see the results right away. Consult with a skincare expert as ampoules are used to target specific areas needing some TLC. These ampoules comes in small glass capsules or small bottles with droppers to ensure that you don’t overuse it. Basically, these are a mixture of beauty and medical treatment combined to help your skin.

An expert can help you with your skincare routine and what products will be most beneficial for you. Try and use these products to see the results!

What is a Lash Lift?

Lash lifting is taking the beauty industry by storm. But what exactly is a lash lift? It a safe, low maintenance lash curl system that lifts and enhances your natural lashes for up to 6 weeks. No need for irritating lash extensions.

I know what you’re thinking,

“Doesn’t curling the lash involve perming and is that even safe?”

The lash perms of the past, which involved cotton roller rods and liquid solutions to curl the eyelashes, is no more. It was deemed unsafe because it was very hard to control these liquids so close to the eye. However, unlike perming, lash lifting uses special shaped silicone shields to protect the eyes and provide a nice curl. This is used with cream solutions that are easily controlled and safe to use around the eyes.

Benefits of Lash Lift:

  • Low maintenance (no downtime)
  • Requires no lash adhesive or eyelash extensions, say goodbye to irritation
  • Cost effective compared to lash extensions (lasts 6-8 weeks)
  • Eliminates the need for eyelash curlers
  • Eliminates the need for mascara if you add a lash tint to the service
  • 3 different levels of “lift” (moderate, natural, dramatic)
  • Lashes appear fuller, thicker and longer
  • Opens up the eyes, making you appear more youthful
  • Perfect for special occasions and vacation

If you’ve ever had a bad reaction to lash extensions, looking for a more natural alternative, or simply just curious, feel free to stop by for a complimentary consult to see if lash lifting will be good for you.

The Luxury of Day Spas? A Key to Wellness and Balance

Self-care is all the rage now. And why not? We live in our bodies our WHOLE LIVES. When people think of spas they think of pampering oneself, but did you know spa services can improve your health as well?

Helps Blood Circulation:
Body and facial massages aid in proper blood circulation. Proper circulation brings damaged, stiff, and tense muscles the rich blood supply they need to promote healing. When the cells and organs get enough oxygen, then they can work at their peak. The results? Glowing, clear skin and elimination of tense muscles!

Relives Stress and Anxiety:
When the body is tense and under stress, it produces unhealthy levels of the stress hormone, cortisol. This can contribute to weight gain, sleeplessness, digestive problems, and headaches. The action of massage techniques removes lactic acid from the muscle tissues. As a result, this action improves the lymph fluid circulation, which carries metabolic waste products away from internal organs and muscles. And the kicker? Most facials also include a face, neck and décolleté massage. Meaning, it gets rid of toxins and reduces fluid retention too!

Improve Skin Condition:
Our skin is like nature – it changes with the seasons and has different needs based on the
temperature, humidity level and hours of sunlight. In the winter, a super hydrating facial will restore lost moisture, while a summer facial will work to calm sun-damaged skin. Getting a facial in the spring will invigorate and nourish dull post-winter skin, and an autumn facial will prep your complexion for the cold months ahead.  Facial treatments can also dry up cystic acne and minimize scarring from pimples. Most people try to hibernate during the winter, but winter season is when you need to hydrate your skin the most! Massages and nail services tend to have hydrating and nourishing products included in their services too.

Prevents Inflammation:
Treatments may reduce symptoms of inflammatory diseases like sciatica, arthritis, and gout. In addition, it also strengthen joints and muscles. Sports related injury or suffering a chronic pain condition like arthritis or fibromyalgia? Spa treatments can help alleviate this pain. A 2012 study found that regular massage therapy of any kind not only reduces inflammation but also increase cell growth in skeletal muscles, while an expert at the University of Alabama believes that the benefits of massage include better cardiovascular health, reduced stress, and a healthier immune system. It makes sense to take a day to “treat yourself” in today’s hectic world, but even just an hour of shutting off for a minute will help. Whether it be going to the spa for a massage or facial, walking in the park, meditation, yoga, etc. the possibilities are endless.
